Hair Removal
The Laser Center of Maryland has effective technology for laser hair removal.
The Apogee and Long Pulse Yag lasers remove more hair in five seconds than an
hour of electrolysis. You can have hair removed from your back, shoulders, neck,
chest, underarms, bikini lines, and even toes! The hair is removed by using
a specific wavelength of laser light that passes harmlessly through the skin.
The light is absorbed by the hair follicles and causes the follicles to become
disabled; this impairs the ability to grow hair.
The Apogee and Long Pulse Yag lasers are designed to selectively treat only
the hair follicle while leaving surrounding skin unaffected. Large areas can
be treated in a short amount of time. Hair removal often requires several treatments
for best results. Our newest laser, Long Pulse Yag, treats all types of skin
pigment.
What are other ways to remove hair?
Until now electrolysis has been the only long-term method for the removal of
unwanted hair. This method can be uncomfortable, time consuming, and the results
are dependent on the skill of the electrologist. Less permanent methods include
shaving, plucking, depilatories, and waxing.
What makes these lasers better than other methods of hair removal?
The Apogee and Long Pulse Yag lasers are designed to selectively treat only the hair follicle
while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected. We can treat large areas in a short
period of time. For instance, a back may take 1 hour to completely treat. The
procedure is fairly comfortable with a very low risk of complication.
How do lasers remove hair and is it painful?
Body hair is removed when a specific wavelength of laser light is passed harmlessly
through the skin to the hair follicle. The light beam changes into heat and
disables the hair follicle. You get the benefit of a follicle that no longer
produces hair! Hair removal is quite comfortable; however, we prescribe a cream
to numb the area before treatment. It’s our goal to keep you comfortable.
How much does it cost for hair removal?
The cost for hair removal and other laser procedures depends on the diagnosis,
size, and area being treated. For your convenience, we offer you a free skin
exam with full-price disclosure. Please call us at 410-544-4600 to set up your
free consultation.
How many treatments will it take?
The laser works by disabling hair follicles that are actively producing hair
at the time of treatment. Since the follicles are producing hair at different
times, several visits may be necessary for the results you want.
