Rhinoplasty/Nose Jobs in Maryland
Rhinoplasty surgically reshapes the nose. This surgery improves breathing, and restores aesthetic shape and symmetry after an injury. Other cases are performed to create a more pleasing contour and size in relation to the rest of the face.
What occurs in the pre-operative consult?
Our doctors will examine your nose, looking for any asymmetries or irregularities that may contribute to poor breathing. In addition, you and the doctor will discuss what surgical options are possible. Patients are encouraged to bring pictures of what they desire. It is important to remember that rhinoplasty can improve the shape and function of the nose, but will not create a “perfect” nose.
How long does the surgery take?
Surgery takes two to three hours.
What type of anesthesia is used?
General anesthesia is always used for rhinoplasty.
What will I experience after surgery?
After rhinoplasty the nose will appear swollen and bruised for the first week. Patients are given a prescription for oral pain medication. A small splint is placed on over the bridge of the nose, and is removed one week after surgery. Patients are encouraged to ambulate the day after surgery. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 1-2 weeks. You should not participate in contact sports for four weeks.
